The Department of Logistics and Infrastructure has released a construction tender for the duplication of Roystonea Avenue in Palmerston.
Chief Executive Louise McCormick said Roystonea Avenue is a key access road that connects Palmerston CBD to the suburbs.
“This project will ease queuing and congestion by extending the duplication of Roystonea Avenue from Terry Drive through to Lambrick Avenue.
“The duplication caters for future growth expected in the Top End and will enhance safety for road users, which is vitally important with 50 lives tragically lost on Territory roads already this year.”
The project will:
improve road safety, traffic flow and drainage, particularly around the Inverway Circuit intersectionaddress the currently unsignalised Roystonea Avenue and Inverway Circuit intersection, and peak hour delays and congestioncater for the future population growth expected in the area, andaddress seasonal localised flooding experienced on the road.
As part of the works, pedestrian crossings will also be added at the Inverway Circuit intersection.
The project is jointly funded by the Australian Government and Northern Territory Government.
Construction is expected to commence in April 2025 following tender award.
