Two key regional health infrastructure projects in Oatlands are one step closer to construction getting underway.
Stage 1 of the redevelopment of the Midlands Multi-Purpose Health Centre and a new Oatlands Ambulance Station are part of the Rockliff Liberal Government’s commitment to deliver regional health infrastructure upgrades.
Tenders for Stage 1 of upgrades to the Midlands Multi-Purpose Health Centre are open, with the project set to deliver a state-of-the-art eight-bedroom aged care residential wing with ensuites, replacing the ageing Callington wing.
Minister for Health, Guy Barnett said the project will also include a nurse’s station, equipment store and staff tearoom.
“The Rockliff Liberal Government is investing in the healthcare infrastructure our regional communities need to ensure Tasmanians have access to the right healthcare, in the right place, at the right time,” Minister Barnett said.
“We have been working closely with the Oatlands Community Advisory Committee throughout the design phase of the project.
“We will continue to work together with the community as we develop future refurbishment stages, the extension of the Callington Wing and construction of a new palliative care area.”
Tenders will also be called for a new Oatlands Ambulance Station, one of six new regional ambulance stations being delivered by the Rockliff Liberal Government under the Statewide Rural Hospital and Ambulance Station Upgrade Fund.
“This important project will deliver a new two-bay ambulance station with training room facilities and improved infection control measures, as well as a contemporary two‑bedroom residence,” Minister Barnett said.
The new Oatlands Ambulance Station will replace the existing facility at 13 Church Street, currently shared with the Midlands Multi-Purpose Health Centre.
The Rockliff Liberal Government has delivered a new ambulance station at Bridgewater, construction is underway at Queenstown and Beaconsfield, and plans are underway for a new station in Bicheno.
Construction works for both the new Oatlands Ambulance Station and Stage 1 of the Midlands Multi-Purpose Health Centre are expected to start in early 2024.
