Parkland on the foreshore of Terranora Creek will be rehabilitated as part of a $400,000 upgrade commencing in early 2025.
Council received grant funding to remove old and unsafe structures and improve the foreshore of Terranora Creek adjacent to Wyuna Road at Tweed Heads West. The area is accessed via Blue Waters Crescent and is located west of the M1 bridge.
The upgrade has been made possible thanks to $400,000 in grant funding from the NSW Government as part of its Stronger Country Communities Program, aimed at boosting the wellbeing of communities in regional areas by providing new or upgraded social infrastructure.
The $400,000 upgrade includes:
removal of broken and degraded foreshore structures that have previously been built without Council approval. These structures are unsafe and will be disposed of offsite.
replacing these structures with rock walls to prevent erosion where necessary
two new stairs/ramps to make community access to the creek easier.
Council’s Team Leader Coast and Waterways Tom Alletson said the upgrade would improve community access to the creek and remove old, dilapidated structures that are unsightly and unsafe.
“During construction, access to the park will be limited, however the end result will be an enhanced foreshore for local residents and those that visit the area,” Mr Alletson said.
“We know Tweed residents value our region’s waterways, and this project marks a significant step forward in providing safer and more accessible spaces areas for the whole community to enjoy.”
Consultation with residents of Wyuna Road with homes backing onto the park has commenced, with construction being planned to take place in early 2025. Construction is expected to take approximately four weeks.
