Australian Rugby League Commissioner, Professor Megan Davis, joined members of the Northern Territory Rugby League community today to officially open Darwin’s new Territory Rugby League Stadium.
The purpose-built rugby league stadium and facilities is a refurbishment of the Warren Park ground in Darwin and will cater for men’s and women’s rugby league training and matches.
Ms Davis was also joined by members of the Northern Territory Government and said the stadium was a welcome addition to the Territory sporting landscape.
“I want to thank the Northern Territory Government for their vision and funding of this project, which is crucial to the ongoing success of rugby league in Darwin and throughout the Territory,” Ms Davis said.
“This is a stadium that is inviting for fans and players alike – from the fields to the facilities – and I’m sure there will be plenty of memorable matches here in the years ahead.”
Northern Territory Minister for Tourism, Sport and Culture, the Honourable Lauren Moss was delighted to welcome rugby league fans to a new stadium in Darwin.
“Territory Rugby League Stadium is a fantastic new home for local rugby league and marks another election promise delivered,” Ms Moss said.
“The new facility will help grow rugby league in the Territory, get more women and girls involved in the game and give local players the facilities they deserve.”
Territory Rugby League Stadium has three fields, can hold over 10,000 fans, and includes four change rooms, food and beverage facilities, onsite storage for clubs and over 500 car parks.
The NRL’s Northern Territory office will be housed at the stadium, with local competitions to be played at the stadium, in addition to touring matches.
