While the visitor centre will close for now, toilets will remain open to the public on a trial period throughout summer and expressions of interest will soon open for community groups interested in using the space.
Throughout the holidays and busy summer period, MidCoast Council will provide tourist information in the popular beachside area through ‘pop-up’ mobile sites and by working with local businesses.
“We thank all the dedicated locals who have given many hours of their time, many for more than a decade, to run the visitor centre at Pacific Palms,” said Council’s Manager of Growth, Economic Development and Tourism, Deb Tuckerman.
“By their efforts, they’ve supported local businesses and assisted countless visitors.
“It’s been a strong display of community spirit and we look forward to working with the community to find new ways of delivering information to visitors going forward.”
The volunteers, who have run the centre since 2005, made the decision to end their commitment following a tough few years due to the impact of COVID-19 in the community.
The visitor information centre located at Blueys Beach was built in 1996 and was previously run by the former Pacific Palms Promotional Group before being passed on to Council.
