Northbridge is set to come alive with entertaining street performances and free family-friendly activities as part of the City of Perth’s New Year’s Eve celebration on Monday 31 December.
“An all-inclusive celebration, the City of Perth’s New Year’s Eve event will feature free activities for the whole family, followed by two firework displays at 9pm and midnight,” City of Perth Chair Commissioner Eric Lumsden said.
“It’s a wonderful time to celebrate with family and friends in the cultural heart of our city.”
Entertainment will take place on two central stages at the Northbridge Piazza and the Perth Cultural Centre.
To kick off the event, afternoon children’s movies will be shown from 5.30 until 7pm. Following this, interactive performers will take to both stages, featuring singing, dancing, magic shows and circus tricks to keep the kids entertained.
Visitors can dance along to pop music, laugh at improvised comedy, watch close-up magic and enjoy timeless acrobatic feats.
Throughout the evening, roving performers including the Silver Water Birds will take over James Street, further adding to the entertaining atmosphere. Standing at four metres tall, these beautiful stilted characters are a visual spectacle.
At 9pm, children will be treated to a special countdown ending with fireworks.
A host of incredible live bands will then take to the stage for the finale, including Adam Hall & the Velvet Boys, Big T, Soukouss Internationale and Proof.
Their performances will conclude with a spectacular fireworks display at midnight, with James Street, Northbridge Piazza and James Street Amphitheatre providing the best locations for viewing.
