The Hills Shire Council has received $2.49 million for road safety projects under the Australian Government’s Black Spot Program for 2023/2024.
The Black Spot Program targets roads where crashes have occurred or are at risk of occurring. The following Hills Shire roads received funding under the program:
- $1.9 million for Annangrove Road between Edwards Road and Kenthurst Road. Works will include installing flexible barriers, vehicle activated signs, threshold treatments and guideposts over a number of locations
- $380,000 for Langford Road/Davey Road, Dural. Works will include installing flexible barriers and upgrading street lighting, edge lines and guideposts and
- $210,000 for Sanctuary Drive, Rouse Hill between Caddies Boulevard and Grandiflora Street. Works will include STOP controls, kerb extensions and a protected right turn lane.
Mayor of The Hills Shire Dr Peter Gangemi expressed his gratitude for the funding.
“I would like to thank the Australian Government for allocating Council this funding so that we can make our roads even safer for our residents,” Mayor Gangemi said.
“The Black Spot funding will go a long way to ensuring a safer trip to work, school, or leisure for our residents travelling along these roads.”
Federal Member for Berowra Julian Leeser MP reflected on the importance of the Black Spot Program.
“Every death or injury on our roads is a tragedy that could have been prevented,” Mr Leeser said.
“This funding is being directed towards some of the busiest roads and most dangerous in our area.
“The funding will play a crucial role in keeping our residents safe.”
Works are expected to commence on these projects in 2024.
