The Wall Street Journal shines international spotlight on South Australia’s Premier Main Street, The Parade

One of the world’s most recognised newspapers, The Wall Street Journal, has heaped praise on The Parade, in an article titled Why Adelaide Might Secretly Be Australia’s Coolest City.

The New York City-based business and economic-focused daily broadsheet is the second-largest newspaper in the United States.

The article, published on 27 October 2023, particularly focussed on Dillons Bookshop, with the quote below accompanied by a large picture of the iconic retailer.

“Dillons, on The Parade, has such a wonderful collection of books and every section has something that’s just a little bit off-kilter. Plus, there are tons of other cute spots to check out around there.”

South Australian model and global activist, Adut Akech Bior, who contributed to the article, described The Parade as “being great for shopping” and recommended visitors check the area’s shops and overall fashion scene.

City of Norwood Payneham & St Peters’ Mayor Robert Bria said while it is common knowledge locally that The Parade is a great Main Street, receiving international recognition is always welcome.

“I am absolutely thrilled such a respected newspaper such as ‘The Wall Street Journal’ is helping to spread the word about The Parade on a global scale.”

“In April this year, thousands of interstate visitors flocked to The Parade for the inaugural AFL Gather Round and the feedback the Council received about our dynamic City was fantastic.

“That is why the Council is always striving to go to the extra mile, continually engage and work with business, to drive our local economy and deliver a great main-street experience for locals and visitors.”

“I would like to acknowledge and congratulate Ross and Sue Dillon, the founders of Dillons Bookshop for this incredible acknowledgment.”

“Dillons Bookshop is an Adelaide institution, having first opened its doors in 1984 and Ross has always been an integral part of our local community having been on the Norwood Parade Precinct Committee and always supporting the Council to make The Parade the number one Main Street in Australia.”
