Thousands raised by Council’s Gala Dinner to support City’s most vulnerable

Mayor of Liverpool Wendy Waller presents the cheque to representatives from this year’s two beneficiaries – Joel Spicer from The Salvation Army in Liverpool and Giovanni Testa from CNA Italian Australian Services.

Proceeds from Liverpool City Council’s major annual fundraising event, Thank You Gala Dinner, held on 12 November at Liverpool Catholic Club have totalled more than $30,000.

Mayor of Liverpool Wendy Waller was joined by other dignitaries to present the cheque to this year’s two beneficiaries – The Salvation Army in Liverpool and CNA Italian Australian Services.

Mayor Waller praised this year’s Thank You Gala Dinner as an overwhelming success during the formal ceremony at Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre.

“Behind the glitz and glamour of Council’s Thank You Gala Dinner was a serious purpose: to give back,” Mayor Waller said.

“As a community, we are indebted to our local organisations who ensured no one was left behind during one of the most challenging periods in our City’s history.”

“The purpose of Council’s event was to acknowledge the self-sacrifice, passion and heroism of the volunteers that power these organisations to do the work they do every day – and I believe we did that.”

Mayor Waller expressed her thanks to the attendees and businesses who supported the event in the lead up through becoming a sponsor or donating a prize to raffle on the night.

“Due to the unprecedented impact of the pandemic, our support has never been more needed,” Mayor Waller said.

“The funds raised will go a long way towards helping members in our community experiencing food insecurity, as well as our seniors and most vulnerable who require assistance.”

Sponsors of the Thank You Gala Dinner event included Liverpool Catholic Club (Diamond), Daikin (Silver), and the University of Wollongong (Silver).
