Shoalhaven City Council is pleased to announce the winners of the 2021 Threatened Species School Art Competition.
To mark Threatened Species Week, earlier this year, Council invited children, from local schools, to create artwork based on this year’s theme, Revival. The Revival theme was inspired by the recovery of our natural areas and bushland after the recent 2019 – 2020 bushfires.
Local children were asked to create artwork that aimed to raise awareness of the 147 native species of plants and animals, in the Shoalhaven, that are currently threatened with extinction.
The Threatened Species School Art Competition winners and the Threatened species they chose to represent include:
- Winner years 5-6 Category- Maddie – Southern Brown Bandicoot
- Runner up years 5-6 Category – Caitlyn – Humpback Whale
- Runner up years 5-6 Category – Sophia – Eastern Chestnut Mouse
- Winner years 3-4 Category – Archie – Greater Glider
- Runner up years 3-4 Category – Will – Magenta Lilly Pilly
The winning entries will be displayed in the Nowra Administration Foyer for everyone to enjoy for two weeks from Monday 22 November until Friday 17 December 2021.
Council received entries from students at Shoalhaven Heads Public School, Nowra Public School, Nowra Christian School, Berry Public School and Nowra Hill Public School.
Council would like to thank everyone who entered the competition and the understanding of the community for the importance of threatened species preservation.
