Three police officers assaulted; man charged at Bankstown, NSW

A man will appear in court today charged after allegedly assaulting three police officers in Sydney’s south-west today.

About 3.45am (Friday 28 August 2020), emergency services were called to Marshall Street in Bankstown, following reports a man was lying on the road.

On arrival, the 31-year-old man allegedly became aggressive towards NSW Ambulance paramedics before he assaulted two constables and a senior constable from Bankstown Police Area Command.

The man was arrested before he was taken to Liverpool Hospital for treatment.

It will be alleged in court that, during the man’s arrest, he pushed a male constable to the ground where the officer struck his head and sustained a serious concussion.

The officer was taken to Liverpool Hospital for treatment. The other two police suffered minor injuries and were treated on scene.

The 31-year-old man was taken to Bankstown Police Station, where he was charged with common assault, three counts of assault police officer in execution of duty cause actual bodily harm, and three counts of resist or hinder police officer in execution of duty.

He was refused bail to appear at Liverpool Local Court today (Friday 28 August 2020).
