Townsville City Council is getting ready to celebrate a thrilling Townsville Eats this Friday.
The spook-tacular event will feature a flash mob performing one of the most well-loved horror themed songs of all time: Michael Jackson’s Thriller.
Townsville Mayor Jenny Hill said there would be plenty of locals wanting to get in on the action.
“Townsville Eats is a hugely popular event for the city, with thousands of people pouring into Flinders Street to enjoy local food and entertainment,” Cr Hill said.
“It’s all part of rejuvenating the city centre and boosting foot traffic in the area.
“We’ve worked with CBD traders and local food trucks to make sure there are options that suit everyone, as well as making sure there’s enough seating along the street.”
Councillor Colleen Doyle said it would be the first time Flinders St was transformed into a Halloween dance floor.
“The flash mob will give locals the chance to recognise the international Thrill The World event,” Cr Doyle said.
“The dance is normally held annually on the Saturday before Halloween. However, we’re going to hold ours 24 hours before the international event takes place.
“It’s a great opportunity to dress up in Halloween costumes or even go all-out with zombie make up.”
Councillor Ann-Maree Greaney said it was great to see locals wholeheartedly embrace Townsville Eats.
“Council had never done anything quite like Townsville Eats before, but the response from the public has been incredible,” Cr Greaney said.
“Seeing massive crowds on Flinders St wanting to enjoy locally-made food and drinks, as well as enjoy local entertainment, is great for our city.”
Townsville Eats runs from 5pm to 9.30pm at Flinders St this Friday, 25 October.
Entry is free.
