Tickets for the Sunshine Coast’s historic NRL clash between the South Sydney Rabbitohs and New Zealand Warriors are now on sale with Coast locals and members of the two clubs having the first chance to secure their seats.
The round five match on Saturday afternoon, April 13 next year will be the first NRL game for premiership points to be played on the Sunshine Coast.
It’s part of a new agreement between the Rabbitohs, Sunshine Coast Council and Tourism and Events Queensland which will see South Sydney play one of its allocated home games at Sunshine Coast Stadium in each of the 2019, 2020 and 2021 seasons.
Rabbitohs powerhouse forward George Burgess today joined Sunshine Coast Deputy Mayor Cr Tim Dwyer at Alexandra Headland to officially launch the tickets for the 2019 match.
A special pre-sale buying window – from noon* today (Friday, 7 December) to 9am on Monday, 10 December – will be open for 2019 members of the two competing clubs and Sunshine Coast residents.
The general ticket sale will get underway at 9am on Monday.
Cr Dwyer said he expected the special buying window would prove to be popular.
“We’re looking forward to having a strong contingent of Rabbitohs and Warriors members in the crowd at Sunshine Coast Stadium on 13 April, but we’re also keen for our local rugby league loving community to have the best chance to see the NRL in their backyard for the first time,” Cr Dwyer said.
“Rugby league has a strong support base here on the Coast, including those who keep our local clubs running, former and current players, and mums and dads who get their kids to training each week, as well as those who watch the NRL on TV every week during the season.
“They’ve been waiting to see the NRL here on the Sunshine Coast and the next four days give them special priority access to tickets to the historic first game.”
Sunshine Coast residents can use #SCLOCAL when prompted after logging in to the Ticketek website to purchase their tickets.
Burgess is looking forward to playing at Sunshine Coast Stadium in April.
“There are South Sydney members and supporters right across Australia and we have always enjoyed great support when we’ve taken our home games to regional areas,” Burgess said.
“I’m sure it will be no different up here when we take on the Warriors.
“We’ve played the Warriors in Perth a number of times and there are many ex-pat Kiwis all over Australia so I’m sure the Warriors fans will snap up their tickets just as our loyal Rabbitohs members will.
“It will be a great weekend up here in April so I encourage all Rabbitohs members to grab their tickets early and make a full weekend of it as there is so much to see and do on the Sunshine Coast.
“My family and I travel up this way often throughout the year as my wife’s family is from the Sunshine Coast and it’s a great spot to get away, and now you can cheer on your footy team as well.”
Tickets start at $30 for adults, $26 concession, and $18 children. General admission family passes are available for $72.
Corporate and hospitality packages will be available. Registrations of interest can be made by contacting Sunshine Coast Stadium.
