Time Called On 3G Network

Federal ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾s Member for Riverina Michael McCormack is warning anyone with a 3G device to upgrade before the Telstra and Optus 3G networks are switched off on October 28.

“The 3G network switch off has been a long time coming, but in less than two weeks it will have finally occurred,” Mr McCormack said.

“If you haven’t already checked to ensure your device will continue functioning after the switch off, now is the time to do so.

“Alarmingly, there are some mobile phones which will continue to be able to make ordinary calls after the switch off but will not be able to make emergency calls as they use the 3G network for such calls.”

Mr McCormack said it is imperative for people to check that their phones do not fall into this category, as it could cause significant issues in an emergency.

“People are advised to text ‘3’ to ‘3498’ to receive an automated reply informing you whether your device will work as normal after October 28.

“Smartwatches, tablets, EFTPOS terminals, personal emergency alarms and other devices may also be affected by the switch off.
