About 100 people paused for two minutes silence during a Remembrance Day Service at the Australian War Memorial in London.
The service was led by the Australian Defence Staff on behalf of the Australian High Commission in London.
Australia’s Acting High Commissioner, Lynette Wood, laid a wreath as did the Head of the Australian Defence Staff, Brigadier Grant Mason.
“This was a deeply moving and memorable service; and having it at our own war memorial in London highlights the strength and enduring nature of our unique relationship with the United Kingdom,” Brigadier Mason said.
Wreaths were also laid by each of the service advisers, the President of London Legacy Australia Yvonne Smith and each of the Australian state agents-general.
The Defence Chief of Staff Wing Commander Xinos said he was pleased to see so many people turn out for the service.
“To see people honour those who made the ultimate sacrifice was touching and means a lot to those of us who are serving today,” Wing Commander Xinos said.
The War Memorial was unveiled by the Queen in 2003.
It features a long curving wall of Australian granite mined in Western Australia and is set with 23,844 names of the hometowns of the Australian men and women who served during the two World Wars.
