Time To Tackle Rising Cost Of Insurance

Tasmanian Government

It is time for the Federal Labor Government to take action on the rising cost, and access to insurance for small businesses and tourism and hospitality operators.

Premier Jeremy Rockliff said with just seven days left until Christmas, the Tasmanian Government is again calling on the Federal Labor Government to step up.

“While our Government has spent a decade slashing red tape, the rising cost of insurance is causing increased concern among our small businesses and operators,” Premier Rockliff said.

“More than seven months ago I wrote to the Federal Government urging action to ease the cost of doing business by developing a national solution to the rising cost of insurance within the tourism, hospitality and small business sectors.

“One in eight Tasmanian jobs rely on the tourism and hospitality sector and we know small businesses are the engine room of our community which is why urgent action is needed to tackle the rising cost of insurance.

“Over the past decade, and with the help of small businesses and operators, our Liberal Government has grown Tasmania’s economy by 26 per cent and created 45,000 jobs.

“Labor says it backs jobs, so now it is time to turn those words into action and deliver small businesses and our tourism and hospitality industry the Christmas present they’ve been waiting for.

“Keeping our economy strong and creating job is an important part of the Government’s 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future, and we call on the Federal Government to follow our lead by backing businesses.”
