Toowoomba Bypass | Amended width restrictions for Class 1 oversize vehicles June 2022

Westbound lanes remain unrestricted for all oversize vehicles.

Class 1 vehicles up to 6.5m wide are permitted to travel eastbound on the Toowoomba Bypass between Charlton and Helidon.

Class 1 vehicles up to 8.0m wide, are permitted to travel eastbound on the Toowoomba Bypass between Charlton and Helidon if they are:

  • greater than 1.0m from the ground, and
  • less than 4.1m of ground contact width.

Loads under 7.9m that don’t meet the above requirements can use the provided alternate approved detour (listed below).

Loads exceeding 7.9m wide need to submit a permit application for an alternative route.

Conditions of travel for loads between 6.5m and 7.9m wide:

  • Must carry the
  • Must submit a Traffic Management Plan (TMP) and receive TMR approval prior to travel.
    • Email your completed TMP to
  • TMP must identify pinch points and wrong side of road travel.
  • Only permitted to travel through Toowoomba between 11pm-3am during this temporary width restriction period.
