Toowoomba will be represented at another international event in the Northern Hemisphere in addition to the 2024 Paris Olympics in coming days when the Region’s Ambassador and Town Crier Kevin Howarth competes at the prestigious Armada Cup at three venues across southern England.
Toowoomba Region Mayor Cr Geoff McDonald and Councillors are sending their best wishes to Mr Howarth for a successful outing at the three-day competition starting on Friday (July 26) in England.
Mayor McDonald said Mr Howarth had a wealth of competition experience and was entering his first overseas competition as the reigning Australian champion Crier, following his outstanding efforts at the 2023 national Town Crier Championships at Maryborough in Queensland.
Mr Howarth also won the Loudest Cry at the championships with an ear-piercing Cry that was recorded at more than 96 decibels, a little below his regular 100 decibel-plus range, but loud enough to drown out a chainsaw.
Mr Howarth was second at the 2022 Australian championships hosted by Central Coast Council in New South Wales.
