After more than a decade of leading Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC), longstanding CEO Brian Pidgeon has notified Council he will not be seeking a subsequent term as CEO. His agreement terminates automatically on 29 July 2025.
TRC Mayor Geoff McDonald congratulated Mr Pidgeon on his local government career, thanking him for his service to the Toowoomba Region.
“Toowoomba Regional Council is one of the largest employers in the Region and is responsible for the ongoing growth and development of our community,” Mayor McDonald said.
“The CEO plays a significant role in the running of the organisation and during his time in charge, Brian has served diligently.”
Having previously worked for Ipswich City Council, Mr Pidgeon joined Toowoomba City Council as the Manager of Health Services before being appointed to the position of Director of Community and Environmental Services in October 1998.
He was later appointed as the General Manager of Environment and Community Services at TRC prior to becoming the Chief Executive Officer in 2013.
“Brian’s experience in local government has been invaluable. I personally thank him for the open and honest communication and advice afforded to me as Mayor,” Mayor McDonald said.
“I wish him all the best in his future endeavours.”
Mayor McDonald said Council will commence the CEO recruitment process from today.
“The legislative role of Councillors is to employ only one person in this organisation and that role is the CEO. We’re taking this seriously and will be following due process, to give ourselves the best possible chance to get the right person to lead this organisation, on behalf of the community into the future,” he said.
“Councillors view this as an opportunity. An opportunity to appoint a new CEO to lead an approach of continual improvement for the community we serve.”
