Nic Street, Minister for Sport and Recreation

Some of Tasmania’s most talented surf competitors have taken to the water and sand today to compete for the crown of state surf lifesaving champion.

Minister for Sport and Recreation, Nic Street, said he was honoured to officially open the 2023 Surf Life Saving Tasmania Open Championships at Carlton Beach.

“The Rockliff Liberal Government is getting more Tasmanians active across the State,” he said.

“This great event gives Tasmania’s best surf life savers the opportunity to showcase their athleticism and test their rescue skills.

“Our Government is a proud supporter of Surf Life Saving Tasmania, providing $2 million over four years to support the provision of services and purchase of equipment.

“Surf Life Saving Tasmania and its members play a vital role in communities across the State, helping to keep Tasmanians safe in and around our waterways.”

Congratulations to all who are participating in the 2023 Championships, and all those involved in Surf Life Saving Tasmania.
