Logan’s City Council’s vision for the Logan River has won a prestigious landscape architecture award.
Council’s Logan River Accessibility and Connectivity Concept Plan took out the landscape planning category at last week’s Australian Institute of Landscape Architects Queensland Awards for Excellence.
It beat seven other entries including Brisbane’s Botanic Gardens Mt Coot-tha Master Plan, Toowoomba’s Picnic Point Parklands Master Plan and James Cook University Townsville Campus Master Plan.
The Logan River Vision 2017 to 2067 and the Logan River Vision Implementation Plan 2017/18 were developed through extensive community engagement which identified a need to review the accessibility and connectivity of the Logan River.
Completed in partnership with Tract Consultants, the winning concept plans outlines strategies to open the Logan River to more tourism and recreational activities, including the 70km water-based Logan River Trail.
It also identifies opportunities to unlock the Logan River’s potential contributions to the local economy, and ecology of the broader Logan region.
The concept plan will also act as a blueprint to guide future planning, investment and the delivery of infrastructure, landscaping and new river access points.
The latest award comes after two Logan City Council projects were recognised at the prestigious Local Government Managers Australia (LGMA) Queensland 2019 Awards for Excellence earlier this month.
Logan’s Carbon Reduction Strategy and Action Plan won the Sustainability category as part of Council’s commitment to becoming a carbon neutral and green city.
Council’s Disaster Management Team took out the Community Shaping category for a program which ensures local disaster management information is accessible and inclusive for all members of the community.
