Residents can get rid of unwanted chemicals for free at Eurobodalla Council’s annual Household Chemical Cleanout later this month.
The annual drop-off lets residents dispose of tricky chemicals – including some not accepted at the shire’s tips – at collection points in Narooma, Moruya and Batemans Bay. Council’s waste services manager Nathan Ladmore said it was a great opportunity to clear out sheds, garages and under the kitchen sink.
“Many chemicals can harm people and the environment when not dealt with appropriately. Here’s your chance to gather up the chemicals you no longer need and be confident they will be disposed of safely,” Mr Ladmore said.
Items that will be accepted include paints, fungicides, household batteries, oxidisers, weed killers, household cleaners, fuel, compact fluorescent light globes, oils, syringes, poisons, acids and alkalis, pool chemicals, gas cylinders, medicines, fertilisers and smoke detectors.
However, asbestos, explosives, clinical waste and radioactive materials will not be accepted.
This year’s Household Chemical Cleanout drop-off points will be:
- Narooma Library car park, Graham Street, Narooma on Saturday 23 November, 9am-4pm
- Gundary Oval car park, Campbell Street, Moruya on Saturday 23 November, 9am-4pm
- Hanging Rock boat ramp, Hanging Rock Place, Batemans Bay on Sunday 24 November, 9am-4pm.
