Tourism Council WA welcomes the announcement of a $76 million Federal tourism recovery package to revive Australia’s reputation as a fantastic leisure destination that is open for business and directly assist bushfire-affected businesses.
Today’s announcement by Prime Minister Scott Morrison and Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment, Senator the Hon Simon Birmingham, follows a series of high-level meetings this week including a tourism roundtable on Thursday afternoon and a meeting on Friday between the Prime Minister and Australia’s peak organisations, attended by Tourism Council WA CEO Evan Hall.
Mr Hall said the package would assist WA tourism operators, which have reported cancellations and a drop in forward bookings from international visitors. Worldwide media coverage of bushfires and haze has affected the country’s reputation which is also impacting WA businesses.
“The funding for international marketing included in today’s announcement is particularly important for regional areas like Broome & the Kimberley and Margaret River, which attract large numbers of international visitors,” he said.
