The Australian Government is delivering on its commitment to support the development of a hydrogen hub in the Townsville region.

A $70 million grant program will open in March 2023. Producers, consumers, and potential exporters of hydrogen across industrial, transport, export and energy markets can prepare with the guidelines available on .

There will be a 2 stage open competitive assessment process:

  • an initial expression of interest stage where the relative merit and business case of applications will be assessed
  • short listed applicants can then submit a full proposal.

The hub will support Australia’s transition to a clean energy economy, create jobs and encourage decarbonisation in hard-to-abate sectors, such as industrial processing and transport.

With this grant program, the government’s planned investment in hydrogen hubs is now more than $525 million, including the $454 million Regional Hydrogen Hubs program for projects across Queensland, New South Wales, South Australia, Western Australia and Tasmania.
