Around 85 Australian Defence Force personnel have been farewelled at Lavarack Barracks in Townsville today ahead of their upcoming deployment to the Middle East region.
The ADF contingent are largely from the Townsville-based 10th Force Support Battalion of the 17th Sustainment Brigade, and will deploy on a seven-month rotation as part of Force Support Element Eleven (FSE 11).
Minister for Defence, Senator the Hon Linda Reynolds CSC said the parade was an opportunity to recognise the sacrifice of our ADF personnel as well as their families and friends who make their service possible.
“After the hard work of pre-deployment training and before the demands of their work in the Middle East, today we recognise the importance of FSE 11 members’ mission, which is a vital part of ADF operations in the Middle East,” Minister Reynolds said.
“The FSE 11 contingent forms part of Operations Accordion and Highroad, providing vital logistics support including the movement of cargo, managing ammunition and other supplies, and maintaining equipment.
“I am incredibly proud of each and every one of our personnel who leave their families to support Australia’s contribution to regional and global security in the Middle East Region.”
There are over 1,000 ADF personnel currently deployed to the broader Middle East Region, including around 100 Reservists.
