Townsville Welcomes 22 First Year Constables

First Year Constables (FYC) Alice Powell and Paula Brodie are two of the 22 new constables welcomed to Townsville District today.

District Officer Acting Chief Superintendent Chris Lawson welcomed Townsville’s newest officers, who were sworn in at Townsville Stadium last Thursday, May 30.

“It’s fantastic to welcome 22 of our North Queensland Police Academy graduates to Townsville District.

“A career in policing provides amazing opportunities to travel the state, engage with people from all walks of life and pursue a wide range of specialist jobs within the QPS.

“These 22 new officers will spend their first year of policing in Townsville District, working with experienced officers to keep our community safe.”

FYC Alice Powell will spend her first year of policing at Ingham and her second year at Mount Isa.

Formally a nurse on the Gold Coast, FYC Powell has yet to decide if she will pursue a specialised career in QPS or do general duties.

“I’m looking forward to the journey and opportunities regional policing will offer,” FYC Powell said.

FYC Paula Brodie has wanted to be a police officer since she was a little girl, and now her daughter has the same dream.

“My daughter is really proud that I have followed my dream.

“I worked at Centrelink for eight years and got married and had a child and I decided it was time to join,” FYC Brodie said.

“I will be working at Deeragun Station for my first year. I’m most looking forward to putting all of the skills we learned at the academy into practice. We do a lot of scenario-based training so it will be great to get out there and do the work. I’m looking forward to applying the knowledge and skills that we learned.”
