Residents and motorists are advised there will be changes to traffic conditions around the Jubilee Park precinct when the annual NSW Touch Association’s (NSWTA) Junior State Cup Southern Conference returns to Wagga Wagga next week.
The premier NSW touch football junior representative event for southern NSW will be held across three days, from Friday 16 to Sunday 18 February.
Wagga Wagga City Council Recreation Coordinator Josh Walsh said it is the sixth consecutive year our city will host the event, which is expected to draw a large contingent of players and spectators from across southern parts of the state to Jubilee Park precinct.
“Council has been working with NSW Touch to ensure it is a fantastic and memorable time for everyone who comes along to this major sports event, while minimising the impact on the surrounding residents during the event,” Mr Walsh said.
“You will see more traffic and pedestrians on the roads surrounding the precinct, with more than 8000 players and spectators expected to attend the precinct over the three days of the carnival.
“We will have lane closures and detours in place on the roads around Jubilee Park so please drive to the conditions and be patient.”
Red Hill Road will be open to west-bound traffic only between the Bourke Street and Glenfield Road roundabouts, while a 40 kilometres per hour speed limit will be in effect along that stretch of road.
Council will have traffic management personnel in place at major intersections and signage in the area to assist the flow of traffic,” Mr Walsh said.
“We know these changes will cause some disruptions and delays for those travelling through the area, particularly at the peak work and school traffic times, but we hope motorists understand that an event of this size is bringing significant economic benefit to the city.”
Detours will be signposted, and motorists are asked to take care in the area as there will be additional traffic and pedestrians around Jubilee Park.
Traffic changes:
- Red Hill Road will be closed to east-bound traffic between the Bourke Street and Glenfield Road roundabouts, with detours via Bruce Street.
- Bourke Street between Bourkelands Drive and Red Hill Road roundabout will be closed to non-event traffic, with detours via Berembee Road, Bourkelands Drive and Holbrook Road.
- Road closures will be in place from 6am to 7pm on Friday and Saturday and 6am to 5pm on Sunday. Detours will be signposted.
