Traffic Operation – South Burnett

Officers from Highway Patrol and Tactical Crime Squad, with the assistance of the Dog Squad, last week conducted a large-scale traffic operation in the South Burnett area, resulting in the arrest of 35 people.

Operation Octagon 2, which ran from August 16 to August 18,involved high visibility patrols that targeted not just road related offences but all criminal offences.

As part of the effort, officers conducted 1086 Roadside Breath Tests (RBTs) and 45 drug tests, recording one positive (high range drink driving) for alcohol and 12 positive results for drugs.

17 people were issued Notices to Appear (NTAs) totalling 21 charges for traffic related offences including drink driving, drug driving and unlicenced driving.

14 people were also issued NTAs on a total of 42 criminal offences including production of a dangerous drugs, possession of dangerous drugs, supply of dangerous drugs, escaping lawful custody, possessing weapons, possessing property suspected of being stolen , obstruct police and breach of bail while 64 Traffic Infringement Notices (TINs) were also issued.

Inspector Scott Stahlhut of the South Burnett Patrol Group said this operation is an example of the continued high visibility and targeted approach to policing in the South Burnetts Patrol Group.

“Our number one priority is community safety and well-being, and we make no apologies for that,” Inspector Stahlhut said.

“Anyone out there who is engaging in criminal activity should expect to see us anywhere at any time” Inspector Stahlhut said.
