Council’s water crew will be constructing a new water connection next week (25-27 March) in Byng Street, and that work will have impacts for traffic and parking.
Council is installing a new connection to provide water to the fire sprinklers system in the new ‘Dirty Janes’ business (formerly PCYC building).
A trench will be excavated across Byng Street and a new 100 mm water pipe will be installed.
Local businesses in the block of Byng Street between Anson and Sale Street will experience traffic and parking impacts for one day on either Monday 25 March or Tuesday 26 March, from 7.00am to 5.00pm depending on which side of the road they are located.
ROAD CLOSED: Traffic and parking in Byng St, between Anson and Sale Streets will be affected by plans to install a new water pipe.
Traffic control staff will be in place at the entrance to this block.
Pedestrian access will not be affected.
Businesses are being encouraged to advise their clients with appointments to leave extra time to park in nearby streets before walking to your business.
Letters with information about the work have been hand-delivered to businesses in the area.
Timetable (weather permitting):
On Monday 25 March the lane on the northern side of Byng Street will be closed to all (east-bound) through-traffic. Business operators will be able to access their driveways, but there will be no parking in front of business for operators or customers on the northern side of Byng Street during the day.
On Tuesday 26 March the lane on the southern side of Byng Street will be closed to all (west-bound) through- traffic. Business operators will be able to access their driveways, but there will be no parking in front of business for operators or customers on the southern side of Byng Street during the day.
On Wednesday 27 March crews will be working in the shoulder of the road on the southern side of Byng Street and traffic and parking will return to normal.
At the end of each day’s shift, the new trench and the installed pipe will be covered in gravel to allow traffic to resume as normal at night.
The road will be re-surfaced in due course.
