Malvern Road in Prahran and Toorak will close between Little Chapel Street and Beatty Avenue from 9pm on Friday, 29 April until 5am on Sunday, 15 May, while important tram maintenance and bridge upgrade works take place.
All cross streets and on-street parking between Little Chapel Street and Beatty Avenue will also close during this time.
Pedestrian access will be maintained to shops, businesses and homes.
The Williams Road intersection will reopen from 2 May and Malvern Road will progressively reopen west-east, as the works are completed.
Drivers can detour via Glenferrie Road, Toorak Road and Williams Road. Clearly marked signage will be in place to guide drivers around the works zone.
There will be service changes to route 72 trams from 7pm on Friday, 29 April until 5am on Sunday, 15 May, with buses replacing trams on portions of the route:
- A shuttle service operates between stop 25 Commercial Road/St Kilda Road and stop 8 Melbourne Central Station
- Trams to operate a shortened service between stop 70 Cotham Road/Whitehorse Road and temporary crossover near stop 38 Clendon Street/Malvern Road
- A minibus will be running from stop 25 Commercial Road/Malvern Road and temporary stop at Balmoral Street (off Commercial Road, near Prahran Market).
Temporary bus stops will be located near existing tram stops where possible.
There will also be service changes to bus routes 603, 604, and 605.
