Over 50 Southern staff gathered at the Queanbeyan Roos Club in May to explore the elements of a trauma-informed culture, and how to create trauma-sensitive environments for clients and staff in a one-day workshops presented by Dr Peter Streker and the Blue Knot Foundation.
Attendees will take the skills back to their workplace where they will develop and implement a quality improvement project in their practice area or clinical setting, supported by our Allied Health Education and IVANS teams.
Funded by a HETI Work Place Learning Grant, the workshop built on a day of preparatory training completed by attendees.
Trauma is a significant factor contributing to poor health and wellbeing outcomes for children and young people experiencing vulnerability and disadvantage. Approximately two-thirds of Australians will experience a potentially traumatic event in their lifetime
Whether delivering frontline care, designing new health facilities, or helping shape policy, everyone at Southern has a role in supporting people who have experienced trauma.
