Treasurer Tim Pallas has chosen Beyond Blue as his nominated charity following the 2019/20 Victorian Budget.
Chaired by former Prime Minister Julia Gillard, Beyond Blue is one of Australia’s most recognised not-for-profits, which has been addressing mental health issues, providing support and raising awareness since 2000.
More than three million Australians live with anxiety or depression, equating to one in every five Victorians.
Recognising the challenges faced by many, the Andrews Labor Government has established a Royal Commission into Victoria’s Mental Health System – the first inquiry of its kind in Australia.
Community consultations are already underway, with more than 8,000 submissions received online by members of the public.
We have promised to accept all of the Commission’s recommendations.
The Victorian Budget 2019/20 delivers a $173 million investment in mental health to give more Victorians experiencing mental illness better treatment and care, closer to home.
The Treasurer has nominated a charity for all four budgets he has delivered, making both a personal contribution and raising funds within the community.

As stated by Treasurer Tim Pallas
“Too many Victorians – too many Australians – have lost their lives to suicide, the cost on our society is immense.”
“And while we don’t have all the answers, a Royal Commission – the first of its kind in Australia – will help us find them.”
“Beyond Blue has supported thousands of people and I’m proud to back their work – please give generously if you can.”
