Treasurer Ben Wyatt has called on all Members of Parliament to cease publically canvassing their opinions on the current legal dispute between the State and construction company John Holland.
John Holland has commenced legal action against the State which stem from the construction of the Perth Children’s Hospital.
The construction company has lodged a writ in the Supreme Court and the legal proceedings will now run their course.
As stated by Treasurer Ben Wyatt:
“It is rather disturbing to see people who admit that they are not legal experts, wading into the area of legal commentary.
“All Members of the Western Australian Parliament have a duty to stand up for the best interests of Western Australia.
“By running a commentary on a court case in which the State is involved has the potential to cost taxpayers dearly.
“Should Members of Parliament wish to increase their exposure via political commentary it is wise they choose to do so on other issues.
“The McGowan Government is committed to defending the best interests of the WA taxpayer.”
