Moreland City Council urges the Victorian State Government to halt the destruction and removal of trees at Gandolfo Gardens.
Many in the community are feeling distressed and devasted about the removal of the trees which is currently underway.
In an effort to save trees, Council has engaged an independent engineering consultancy to provide advice on alternative construction options.
Council sent a letter to the Victorian Premier and Minister for Transport, seeking to halt progress around the Moreland Station precinct to allow an independent assessment of the design and construction methodology that could allow the retention of more trees.
LXRP contractors started cutting down heritage trees at Gandolfo Gardens today.
Council supports the removal of level crossings but is disappointed that the government has repeatedly ignored requests from Council and the community to find alternative solutions that would save the trees.
Council has supported the community in their fight to save the trees in Gandolfo Gardens. We will continue to work together through Council’s Community Advocacy Reference Group to advocate to the LXRP for the best possible outcome for our community.
