Greensborough Highway Patrol impounded three vehicles within 50 minutes in Melbourne’s north-eastern suburbs last night.
A 53-year-old man was pulled over by police on Yan Yean Road in Plenty after they allegedly clocked him doing 128km/h in a 70 zone about 10pm.
The South Morang man’s brand-new Ford Mustang will now sit in the impound yard for 30 days at the cost of $895.
But he wasn’t the one keen to have their new wheels behind bars
A 19-year-old P-plater was allegedly caught doing 168km/h in a 100 zone on the Metropolitan Ring Road at Thomastown about 9.10pm.
His new Holden Commodore he had only picked up earlier that day was also sent ot the impound yard.
Both men will be charged on summons for speeding offences.
A 21-year-old man also had his Holden Commodore impounded for 30 days after he was seen driving without his headlights on along Dalton Road about 9.45pm.
A check of his licence soon revealed he was a disqualified learner driver.
The Reservoir man is expected to be charged on summons with driving while disqualified.
Several hours earlier highway patrol members also impounded a BMW M2 after the driver was allegedly nabbed driving at 108km/h in a 60 zone on Dalton Road in Lalor about 4.30pm.
The 22-year-old probationary driver is expected to be charged on summons with speeding and driving a prohibited probationary vehicle.
