Truck drivers have today joined the Australian Trucking Association (ATA) to share their thoughts on the national truck laws.
The ATA represents the 50,000 businesses and 200,000 people in the Australian trucking industry.
Truck drivers travelling along the Hume Highway today stopped by Marulan BP Southbound to join the ATA and officers from NSW Police for ‘Coffee with a Cop’ – an initiative that aims to break down barriers, chat about current issues and discuss ways to work together, all over a free coffee thanks to ATA Foundation Sponsor BP.
“Today was all about encouraging positive conversation and hearing from truck drivers first-hand,” ATA CEO Ben Maguire said.
The ATA was also joined by member associations NatRoad and Road Freight NSW, as well as the Livestock, Bulk and Rural Carriers Association.
“The Coffee with a Cop initiative showcases the excellent work officers from NSW Police are doing in collaborating with the trucking industry, working together with operators and associations to improve road safety,” Mr Maguire said.
“As the national truck laws are currently being reviewed, today’s event was also a great opportunity for the ATA and our members to hear what truck drivers think about the law and what they would like to see fixed.
“It’s crucial to gather feedback from truck drivers during this review process, as they are the ones dealing with these laws on a day-to-day basis,” he said.
The responses gathered from truck drivers will now be used to assist in developing ATA submissions to the Heavy Vehicle ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Law review.
The event was kindly hosted by the BP team with all drivers and travellers provided with a complimentary coffee. BP continues to invest in state-of-the-art truck stop facilities that provide truck drivers a place to stop, rest, refresh and have a healthy meal before they continue their safe journey.
