Truck runs out of fuel on freeway, South Australia

A driver has tested positive to methamphetamine after his truck ran out of fuel on the Freeway this morning, blocking traffic.

Police were alerted to the breakdown on the downtrack of the South Eastern Freeway at Bridgewater just after 7.30am on Thursday 31 October.

The B-double had run out of fuel. The driver had managed to half pull into the emergency lane, but the trailer was still blocking one lane of the freeway, posing a hazard to other motorists.

The Victorian truck driver tested positive to methamphetamine. The sample was sent for forensic testing. Police also allegedly found an ice pipe in the truck.

The driver was issued with a direction not to drive for 24 hours and a service van was requested with fuel and another driver.

The truck was refuelled several times, but technicians are unable to start the engine.

Traffic is flowing freely but slowly and speed restrictions still apply in the area. Police thank motorists for their patience and share in their frustration at the delays.
