The Territory Labor Government has unveiled the first image of one of the illuminated sculptures that will form part of a new exhibition by world-renowned artist Bruce Munro.
Bruce Munro: Tropical Light will feature eight illuminated sculptures placed throughout the Darwin CBD and will be the artists first citywide exhibition in the world.
The exhibition is funded through the Territory Labor Governments Turbocharging Tourism initiative, to help drive visitation to Darwin during the traditionally quieter Tropical Summer season.
There is a range of opportunities for the Territory community to get involved:
- Local artists can lodge an Expression of Interest to take part by designing artworks that will be included along the exhibition route, to activate the CBD further and form part of a 2.5km art trail.
- The community can get involved by signing up as a volunteer to help install the eight illuminated sculptures that will create Bruce Munro: Tropical Light. Working with Mr Munros production team, volunteers will have the chance to be part of an internationally recognised project, as well as build capability and knowledge for future projects.
- Local businesses will be encouraged to get behind the exhibition in a range of ways, from adopting Bruce Munro: Tropical Light themes through to specific programs and events.
Local photographer Louise Denton has developed an image inspired by Bruce Munros work that will be included in the exhibition.
Installation of the sculptures will commence on 23 September 2019 and will take five weeks. The exhibition will run from 1 November 2019 until 30 April 2020.
The installation team will comprise of four Bruce Munro Studio technicians, six Darwin art handlers and 20 local volunteers. Local businesses RAM Services, The Cool Guys and Programmed will also be involved.
Six Territorians who love the Tropical Summer and enjoy getting out and about and sharing their experiences will also be appointed as Local Ambassadors to promote the exhibition and provide a voice for local experiences.
