Move over Barnesy… young musos of the Tweed are getting ready to rock at the Youth Music Venture grand finale concert at Seagulls Club, Tweed Heads West tomorrow (Sunday 11 September 2022).
Youth Music Venture (YMV), a volunteer organisation, provides programs that cater for young people wanting to experience what it’s like to be part of a band.
The free program is open to young people aged 11 to 17 years and was launched in the Tweed for the first time this year after it began operating on the Gold Coast in 2009.
Sunday’s grand finale concert will be a culmination of the program and provide band members – there are 4 bands in total – with an opportunity to perform like rock stars in front of a live audience. The concert will take place from 2 – 5 pm.
YMV founder Ian Grace said Council and Seagulls Club had been huge supporters of the 8-week program which has seen 21 young people from the Tweed develop their craft through esteemed mentorship from professional musicians.
“We are absolutely delighted with the response to the program here across the border in the Tweed,” Mr Grace said.
“We want to thank all of our young musos who worked so hard and also our mentors, Council and Seagulls staff.”
Council’s community development officer Sylvia Roylance said the initiative had opened up a world of opportunity for young musicians in the community.
“We are proud to support opportunities that support our young people to thrive,” she said.
“The arts and music are such an important part of our vibrant community already.”
Seagulls’ general manager Stuart Burrows said the club was excited to host the finale of such a successful program.
Mace, a 15-year-old participant and aspiring muso, loved the program and was excited for the end of term concert: “I can’t wait. Rock on!”
