Today, ACT Policing welcomed 26 new constables to the team. A ceremony was held at the Australian Federal Police headquarters in Barton to celebrate their hard work and mark their graduation into the force.
The officers will be stationed across the Territory. Six officers will join Belconnen, Woden and City stations, three will join Gungahlin and five will join Tuggeranong patrol.
Minister for Police and Emergency services Mick Gentleman said that he is pleased to welcome the new officers to community policing in the ACT.
“Emergency service personnel exemplify the very best of what the community has to offer. I wish you all well as you begin your careers in policing and thank you for choosing to serve the ACT community,” said Minister Gentleman.
During the ceremony, Chief Police Officer for the ACT, Neil Gaughan congratulated the nine women and 17 men for completing the challenging six-month course.
These new officers have come from a range of previous careers including from ACT Policing Communications, Queensland Police, anti-money laundering work, retail customer service, aviation security and real estate.
The recruits also have tertiary qualifications in areas of business, chemistry, criminology, justice, law, psychology, social science and international security. Their knowledge and experiences contribute to our well-rounded and diverse police force.
