Two additional men have been charged following an alleged assault in the Illawarra last month.
Emergency services responded to reports of an assault at a hotel on Central Road, Unanderra, about 6km south-west of Wollongong, about 10.50pm on Friday 12 April 2024.
Police will allege a verbal altercation ensued, before a 59-year-old man was allegedly assaulted.
He was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to Wollongong Hospital.
Officers from Lake Illawarra Police District commenced an investigation into the incident with Strike Force Tora established to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Investigators were notified on Wednesday 1 May 2024, the man died in hospital as a result of his injuries.
A 33-year-old man was subsequently charged with assault occasioning death and remains before the courts.
As part of ongoing inquiries, it was established a second man, aged 61 was also allegedly punched to the back of the head twice.
About 4.30pm yesterday (Thursday 9 May 2024), two men, aged 23 and 31, were arrested after presenting to Lake Illawarra Police Station.
The younger man was charged with common assault and affray.
The older man was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm and affray.
They were granted conditional bail to appear before Port Kembla Local Court on Wednesday 29 May 2024.
Investigations are continuing.
