Two charged after pursuit in allegedly stolen vehicle – Moree

Two men have been charged with several offences after a pursuit in the state’s north.

About 5.50am today (Monday 11 November 2024), emergency services were called to David Street, Moree, following reports two men had allegedly entered a home and threatened a 29-year-old woman with a knife before stealing a white Toyota RAV4 SUV.

On arrival, officers attached to New England Police District attempted to stop the white SUV and a blue station wagon as they were leaving the address.

When the vehicles allegedly failed to stop as directed, police commenced a pursuit before it was terminated due to safety concerns.

A short time later, police located the station wagon – believed to have been stolen from Grafton on Sunday 10 November 2024 – abandoned on Maple Avenue.

Following a search, two men – aged 19 and 20 – were located on Loren Avenue, with the 20-year-old allegedly producing a knife when officers attempted to arrest him.

No one was injured in the incident.

Both men were taken to Moree Police Station, with the 20-year-old charged with be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner, custody of knife in public place, and carry cutting weapon during apprehension.

The 19-year-old was charged with six pursuit and traffic offences, face disguised with intent to commit indictable offence, and breach of bail conditions.

They were both refused bail to appear before Moree Local Court today (Monday 11 November 2024).

Detectives have commenced an investigation into the break and enter incident on David Street.

About 12.15pm today, officers attached Traffic and Highway Patrol Command commenced a pursuit after attempting to stop a white SUV on the Gwydir Highway, near Grafton, before the pursuit was terminated due to safety concerns.

About 12.30pm, emergency services were called to Bimble Avenue, South Grafton, following reports two people had exited a moving vehicle before it continued to roll forward into the front of a home.

Police located an unoccupied white Toyota RAV4 at the scene.
