Two charged over allegedly defrauding $100,000 of elderly woman – SF Artal 23

Two people have been charged over the alleged $100,000 fraud of an elderly woman in Sydney’s south-west.

In July 2023, officers from Campsie Police Area Command commenced an investigation under Strike Force Artal 23, following reports an 81-year-old woman had allegedly been defrauded of more than $100,000.

Following inquiries, strike force investigators arrested a 43-year-old woman at a school in Lucas Heights about 11am on Monday 16 October 2023.

She was taken to Sutherland Police Station, where she was charged with two counts of dishonestly obtain financial advantage etc by deception.

The Narwee woman was granted strict conditional bail and is due to appear at Bankstown Local Court on Thursday 30 November 2023.

Following further inquiries, detectives arrested a 48-year-old man in Narwee about 6.30am today (Tuesday 24 October 2023).

He was taken to Campsie Police Station, where he was charged with fraudulently render false expense account and dishonestly obtain financial advantage etc by deception.

Police will allege in court that the man and woman, who are known to the 81-year-old woman, allegedly stole jewellery, cash, and her bank cards before fraudulently using the banks cards to spend more than $100,000 on clothes, food, and other items.

It will be further alleged the pair coerced her out of her unit in Mascot and illegally collected rent on the property.

The Narwee man was refused bail to appear at Bankstown Local Court today.
