Two dead after crash near Liverpool

Two people have died following a fail to stop crash in Sydney’s south west overnight.

About 9.20pm (Friday 1 September 2023), emergency services were called to Sadleir Avenue, Heckenberg, following reports of a multi-vehicle crash.

A black Mercedes and a Toyota Echo reportedly collided head-on, before the Mercedes hit a Toyota Rav4 and flipped on its side.

NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the driver of the Echo, a 24-year-old woman, and a 15-year-old male passenger; however, they both died at the scene. They are yet to be formally identified.

The two occupants of the Rav4 were uninjured.

Police have been told the occupants of the Mercedes climbed out of the upturned vehicle and were seen getting into a Volkswagen Golf before driving off.

Officers from Liverpool City Police Area Command established a crime scene which has been examined by specialist officers attached to the Metropolitan Crash Investigation Unit.

The Mercedes has been seized and will be forensically examined.

As part of inquiries, the VW was seized after being located by police at Ashcroft and the driver, an 18-year-old man, was arrested after attending Liverpool Police Station about 11.30pm. He was taken to Liverpool Hospital for mandatory testing.

An investigation is underway into the circumstances surrounding the crash.

As inquiries continue to identify the occupants of the Mercedes, anyone with information – or who may have dashcam or mobile phone footage – is urged to contact Liverpool Police Station or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers: 1800 333 000 or https://nsw.crimestoppers.com.au. Information is treated in strict confidence. The public is reminded not to report information via NSW Police social media pages.
