Two in custody as alleged conspiracy-to-murder plot thwarted by the Organised Crime Squad

State Crime Command detectives have arrested two people and executed a search warrant, thwarting another alleged murder plot following investigations under Strike Force Barralier.

Strike Force Barralier was established in December 2023 by State Crime Command’s Organised Crime Squad to investigate an alleged conspiracy to murder a man residing in the Sydney metropolitan area.

Following inquiries by Strike Force Barralier detectives, three men were identified as allegedly being involved in a plot to murder a 30-year-old man.

Police will allege in court, the alleged criminal cell was conspiring to murder a man with known affiliations to organised crime figures.

About 6am today (Wednesday 17 January 2024), strike force detectives – assisted by the Tactical Operations Unit (TOU) – executed a search warrant in Greenfield Park where officers arrested an 18-year-old man.

He was taken to Fairfield Police Station where he is expected to be charged with conspiracy to murder, and participate in a criminal group. He has been refused bail to appear in Fairfield Local Court later today.

Strike Force detectives have also this morning arrested a 30-year-old man under a Section 25 order. He has been taken to Maroubra Police Station where he will be charged with conspiracy to murder, and participate in a criminal group. He will appear in Waverley Local Court later today.

State Crime Command’s Director of Crime Operations, Detective Acting Superintendent Grant Taylor, said today’s arrests underpinned the Force’s commitment to preventing crimes and disrupting criminal activity.

“Organised Crime Squad detectives are focused on cutting serious criminal enterprise off at the knees; to proactively identify, intercept and disrupt those seeking to intimidate and/or do harm to others,” Det A/Supt Taylor said.

“Only last week we demonstrated the effectiveness of arresting and charging those involved in planning criminal actions, and we are dedicated to work proactively to identify and prevent high-risk events before victims are created and we have appalling crimes to investigate.

“This is the third such operation where SCC detectives have identified and intervened to prevent an alleged criminal cell involved in conspiracy to murder.

“It won’t be the last,” Det A/Supt Taylor said.
