Healthy Heart of Victoria has funded the installation of two new pieces of playground equipment in addition to the shade structures and new BBQ installed in March 2020 at this site.

In late 2019 Co-coordinator of Maryborough Community House Jeannie Clarke undertook consultations with the local community and the local school children who disembark from the school bus in front of the playground. It was identified that a swing to suit all ages and some type of climbing structure is preferred.

The Active Living Census findings told us that:-

  • Males aged 3 – 11 undertook an average of 437 minutes of physical activity per week
  • Females aged 3 – 11 undertook an average of 214 minutes of physical activity per week

(The Department of Health recommends young people aged 5 to 17 do 60 minutes a day of vigorous physical activity, which is 420 minutes per week.)

The 2019 Active Living Census reports are available to view and download from

One aim of Healthy Heart of Victoria is to fund improvements for infrastructure, facilities and/or programs across the region to enable more community members to increase their activity levels.

Other projects funded are:-

  • The kitchen garden and workshops at Maryborough Community House
  • Path upgrades and nature play area at Maryborough’s Goldfields Reservoir
  • A new basketball court at Dunolly
  • Pumptrack and outdoor fitness equipment in Gordon Gardens Dunolly – coming in October

Central Goldfields Shire Chief Administrator Noel Harvey said the new play equipment will be popular with the community.

“The new additions to the playground will be great for residents and now the playgrounds are open again from this week and with spring having arrived we encourage more people to be more active more often.”
