Two officers injured in crash, NSW

Two police officers remain in hospital after their vehicle was destroyed by fire after a single-vehicle crash in Sydney’s west.

About 1.10am today (Sunday 25 December 2022), officers attached to Nepean Police Area Command were responding to reports of a stolen vehicle in the Penrith area.

The marked police car was travelling west on the M4, when the vehicle entered the exit ramp to head north on The Northern Road at Orchard Hills and crashed into a traffic light.

Both officers inside the vehicle – two male constables – were able to free themselves, as the vehicle caught alight.

An 100m exclusion zone was established whilst crews from Fire and Rescue NSW worked to extinguish the blaze; however, the car was destroyed.

The officers were assessed at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to Westmead Hospital for treatment for non-life threatening injuries.
