Two pedestrians hit by car; driver charged at Fairfield, NSW

Officers from the Metropolitan Crash Investigation Unit have charged the driver of a vehicle after two pedestrians were hit by a car in Fairfield yesterday.

About 7pm (Saturday 4 May 2019), emergency services were called to Vine Street, near Weston Street, in Fairfield following reports two people had been hit by a car as they crossed the road.

On arrival officers located a 62-year-old woman and her 69-year-old husband suffering injuries. The woman was treated for significant leg injuries and was taken to Liverpool Hospital where she has undergone surgery. Her husband suffered minor injuries and is being treated for shock.

The 40-year-old driver of a van, from Villawood, was arrested at the scene and taken for mandatory tests.

He was then returned to Fairfield Police Station where he was charged with dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm, negligent driving occasioning grievous bodily harm, not stop at stop line at red light.

His licence has been suspended.

He was given conditional bail to appear at Fairfield Local Court Monday 27 May 2019.
