Police are appealing for assistance as they continue to investigate a serious crash involving a stolen motor vehicle that occurred over the weekend.
Just before 1am yesterday (Sunday 3 December 2023), emergency services were called to Southern Cross Drive at Mascot, following reports of a two-vehicle crash involving a white Kia Cerato and a red Honda Jazz.
With the assistance of Fire and Rescue NSW, officers from the Rescue and Bomb Disposal Squad freed a passenger from the Kia – a 13-year-old boy – before he was taken to the Sydney Children’s Hospital at Randwick in a serious condition.
Two female passengers in the Kia – aged 12 and 13 – were taken to the same hospital for observations.
The driver of the Kia left the scene on foot prior to the arrival of emergency services.
The 19-year-old male driver and sole occupant of the Honda was uninjured.
Officers from South Sydney Police Area Command secured a crime scene that was examined by specialist police from the Crash Investigation Unit.
Inquiries have established that the Kia Cerato was reported stolen from an Alexandria address the previous day (Saturday 2 December 2023).
