Seeing the joy on her two-year-old son Ezekiel’s face when on a swing in Melbourne, was the catalyst for Maryborough mum Sarah, to advocate to Council for a high back toddler swing for the Central Goldfields.
On returning from an admission at the Royal Children’s Hospital, Sarah wrote to Council to find out if a similar style swing could be installed here in Maryborough.
The family’s wish has been granted with the new high back toddler swing installed at the Adventure Playground with Ezekiel to be the first resident to enjoy it.
Sarah said the swing would bring their family so much joy and is a positive step towards play space inclusiveness.
“Ezekiel was born premature and with complex medical conditions which means he has low muscle tone and requires additional postural support.
“Because of this Ezekiel is not able to use the standard, low back swings you see at most play spaces, and benefits from the additional harness as well.
“The joy on Ezekiel’s face when he experienced the fun of a swing whilst in Melbourne was incredible.
“To have this swing here in Maryborough means so much to our family and we thank the Central Goldfields Shire for making this a reality.”
Central Goldfields Shire Maryborough Ward Councillor Geoff Lovett said it was heart-warming to see such a simple, low-cost addition to the playground make such a significant difference to the Robinson family.
“For Ezekiel to now be able to enjoy one of childhood’s best joys – a ride on a swing – close to home is incredibly special.”
